Stars and Stripes on the Remnants of the Berlin Wall

"In Berlin, there are many parts of the wall between East and West Germany which still stand today. At this site, the destroyed wall stands 50m long and is virtually an outdoor museum. The writings on the wall depict the hopes we all know as the longing for the end to German separation, and here the unexpected graffiti depiction of the US flag serves as a beacon of hope in a time when the stars and stripes showed the unity of an entire country, an event of which Germany would soon experience. On the eve of the 20th birthday of Germany as a united country, we stood in awe of the history that stood all around us as we walked the streets of modern, unique Berlin."- Detwiler
